John Cromer

John Cromer

It was in 1956 that John moved to Southern California where he grew up surfing the beaches of Orange County and hiking the arroyos and hills. He received his first box of oil-paints on his thirteenth birthday, and has spent his life pursuing his passion…painting.

His professional career began in 1968 and has been intermingled with sailing/painting voyages to the Caribbean, Central America, Islands of the Pacific and Africa.

His work covers the spectrum of the California landscape, from wilderness to city, paying homage to the idyllic light that has captivated generations of California painters. John Comer graduated from the University of Santa Barbara of California.

In 1988, Comer met Ray Strong through fellow painter Michael Drury, whose influence became instrumental in Comer's career development. His collectors among others include Jeff Bridges, George Stern, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and The Nature Conservancy. Comer has had many solo exhibitions which the latest include the "Land & Legacy" Monterey Museum of Art, Fine Art Dealers of America Show, LA, and "on Location in Malibu" - C.A.C. Phippen Museum, AZ.

John Comer Brings California Seascapes to Enjoy Art. He was just a regular surfer boy in sunny Southern California before he picked up his first paintbrush at age 13, but John Comer's ability to paint realistic and thought-provoking landscape oil paintings has become highly desirable. People who love landscapes, sunshine, south Cali, or anyone who would appreciate a realistic fine work of art will thoroughly enjoy the paintings of John Comer. Since 1968, Comer's seascapes and landscapes have been enjoyed by celebrities, art galleries and in the homes and businesses of those fortunate enough to have an original painting on canvas. Although many artists find oil paintings to be the most difficult of mediums, John Comer's amazing landscape art is always a masterpiece. Perhaps some of these works were inspired by John Comer's love of sailing and the ocean, which are evident in Refugio Beach and Palos Verdes Cove original prints and posters.
