Greg La Rock

Upon graduating CSULB, Greg LaRock went on to establish his own graphic design business for the next 17 years. Several years ago Greg decided to rekindle his love for figure and landscape painting and the pursuit of plein air. “Creating three-dimensionality on canvas is a challenging, life-long pursuit. I aspire to capture the essence of the world on location through composition, by simplifying nature’s beauty, depicting her subtle changes in color, light and shadow … and doing it all with paint.”

As a member of several plein air groups, you’ll regularly find him capturing the light of the Southern California landscape, “Any excuse to get outside and I’m there.”

Greg LaRock won the first place/grand prize at the 2008 Easton Plein Air event in Maryland. He also was awarded the first place, $5000 purchase prize for the Newport Bay Naturalist 2008 Mural Competition in California. Greg has been juried into the Oil Painters of America national show twice, awarded a “Jury’s Top 50” at the Greenhouse Gallery’s Salon International twice, was an invited artist to LPAPA’s 8th and 10th Annual Plein Air Invitational, featured in Southwest Art’s “Artist to Watch” column in November, 2006 and was included in Jack Richeson Fine Art Series book “Plein Air New Mexico.” He lives in Newport Beach, California with his wife and their two basenjis.
